ABOUT SJBC

In 1998 a handful of seminarians from Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary and Fr. John Berg FSSP took to the hills, the Black Hills in South Dakota, to host a summer camp for boys. Since then, OLGS seminarians have hosted over a thousand campers from all over the country in two regional, 12-day boys camps focusing on faith formation and outdoor experiences. Camp St. Peter has continued in South Dakota, and a second camp, Camp St. Isaac Jogues, started in Pennsylvania and continues with great success.

Saint John Bosco Camps was founded in 2020 to continue the work begun by Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary. SJBC seeks to glorify God through Catholic camps and wilderness experiences. SJBC works in collaboration with Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary to help young people and others grow in faith and virtue while experiencing God’s grandeur in His creation. SJBC seeks to teach the truths of Jesus Christ and preserve the sacred traditions of His Church in young people so that His joy might be in them, and their joy may be filled (Jn. 15:11).

OLGS seminarians have hosted over a thousand campers from all over the country in two regional boys camps. Camp St. Peter continues in South Dakota, and Camp St. Isaac Jogues in Pennsylvania. Both of these camps are still running and currently host 48 campers and 4 junior counsellors (outstanding camp alumni who return to help on the camp) each year. Eight to ten seminarians and the chaplain organize and run a 10-12 day camp that focuses on faith formation and outdoor experience.

For over twenty years boys at these camps have been praying the daily rosary, racing each other through mud pits and participating in daily Mass. On these camps they confess to and play soccer with the Chaplain, hike with the seminarians, do push-ups and eat s'mores. They make new friends, grow in their faith and (we hope and pray) go home more Christ-like than they came.

In 2023 SJBC made the leap of expanding their operations. Currently we host two sessions of Camp St. Peter, one of Camp St. Isaac Jogues, and this year, are happy to be launching a new program SURSUM CORDA. We hope to continue to expand!
